Mr. William Hamo Thornycroft, R. A.

"Bronze Statuary"

This original 1892 Vanity Fair lithograph by Sir Leslie "Spy" Ward is of the sculptor William Hamo Thornycroft.

This print comes already matted to a standard 16 x 20" frame size so it will be easy and inexpensive to frame and is enclosed in a protective plastic sleeve. It also includes the typed biography of sculptor Thornycroft by Jehu Junior that was originally published with the print in 1892. The biography states:

...there have followed "The Mower", "The Sower", and many another piece of animated stone or metal, among which perhaps there is no finer example of the sculptor's art than that National Memorial to General Gordon which now preaches to all who pass by in Trafalgar Square and the eternal condemnation of Gladstonian treachery.

You can view Thornycroft's "The Mower" at this web site and his statue of General Gordon here. There is a small foxing mark on the right margin which has largely been matted out.
